EviSign NFC HSM
Advanced Contactless Electronic Signature
EviSign NFC HSM is Freemindtronic’s finished advanced electronic signature technology for compatible DataShielder NFC HSM devices. It links the signature to the signatory, identifies the signatory, keeps the signing means under the signatory’s control through a contactless hardware device and detects later changes to signed data. Therefore, EviSign NFC HSM follows the logic of an advanced electronic signature under eIDAS Article 26, while it does not claim qualified electronic signature status, QSCD status, QTSP status or a qualified certificate.
The EviSign browser extension helps users verify signatures and handle cryptographic workflows inside the Freemindtronic ecosystem. In addition, it keeps sensitive signing operations connected to compatible NFC HSM technology instead of relying on a cloud signing account.
EviSign supports Chromium and Firefox based web browsers according to the deployed configuration and the DataShielder product capability matrix.
EviSign NFC HSM works with the Freemindtronic application ecosystem and uses segmented-key authentication technology from NFC HSM.
EviSign NFC HSM implements a technical advanced electronic signature approach under eIDAS Article 26. It links the signature to the signatory, identifies the signatory through an EviSign identity record, gives the signatory control of the signing means through a compatible DataShielder NFC HSM and detects later changes to signed data.
However, a qualified electronic signature belongs to another legal category. It requires a qualified certificate, a qualified trust service provider and a qualified signature creation device. EviSign NFC HSM does not claim these qualified statuses.
For PDF workflows, EviSign NFC HSM uses a PAdES-B-technical path with an embedded CMS signature over the PDF ByteRange. In parallel, the EviSign envelope can carry the hybrid ES256 plus ML-DSA proof. Therefore, the page distinguishes technical proof, advanced electronic signature technology and qualified eIDAS signature status.
The application supports 15 languages: Arabic, Catalan, Chinese, English, French, German, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Ukrainian and Spanish.
Moreover, the app selects the smartphone language automatically, which helps organisations deploy EviSign NFC HSM electronic signature workflows across international teams.
Users can install EviSign NFC HSM easily and work in their own language. At the same time, they keep the security model of a physical, contactless signing device.
Freemindtronic can add more languages for specific deployment needs.
EviSign NFC HSM runs only on the compatible DataShielder range. The supported products are DataShielder NFC HSM Master, DataShielder NFC HSM Lite, DataShielder NFC HSM Auth, DataShielder NFC HSM M-Auth, DataShielder NFC HSM Lite 5 and DataShielder Defense NFC HSM.
The DataShielder NFC HSM Starter Kit may include a compatible DataShielder device. Therefore, EviSign availability follows the actual device capability matrix, not the kit name alone.
EviSign NFC HSM also benefits from Freemindtronic technologies such as EviCypher and EviPass when the product matrix enables them. EviCypher extends secure encryption and OpenPGP-oriented use cases, while EviPass focuses on strong authentication.
In addition, EviSign NFC HSM supports secure document signing through two complementary paths. The detached EviSign envelope protects the original file and can carry the hybrid ES256 plus ML-DSA proof. The PDF path can publish a signed PDF copy, named with the Signed-by-DataShielder prefix, in a DataShielder signed-document folder.
Freemindtronic designs its NFC HSM technologies for low-energy operation, long service life and reduced cloud dependency.
EviSign NFC HSM supports air-gapped electronic signature workflows because it keeps sensitive signing assets in NFC memory rather than in a cloud account. As a result, users reduce unnecessary cloud dependency.
The NFC HSM hardware preserves data for long periods without continuous power. Therefore, it supports durable identity and key-management use cases.
Compatible devices use ISO 15693 NFC technology with energy harvesting. Consequently, the NFC field powers contactless operations during use.
The NFC HSM device does not need a rechargeable battery for its core contactless memory and NFC signing operations.
The electronic card complies with the European RoHS directive. In addition, the coating and ABS plastic shell can follow the relevant recycling stream.
A compatible NFC HSM device can return to factory configuration. Therefore, users can prepare it for reuse when appropriate.
EviSign NFC HSM gives compatible DataShielder products an advanced contactless electronic signature technology. It links the signature to the signatory, identifies the signatory, keeps the signing means under user control and detects later data changes. Moreover, it combines a hardware NFC HSM workflow with hybrid ES256 and ML-DSA evidence. However, it does not claim qualified electronic signature, QSCD, QTSP or qualified certificate status.
